Analyzing Comics

In order to analize a Comic Strip there are some stpes to follow. It is important to follow this steps so that the information is more organized and well detailed.

First, you should reasearch about the author and context of the comic. This can help you understand the comic better. If you know about the atuthor you can identify his/her purpose for writing the comic. The context also will influence the author and purpose. Usually, the author writes the comic based on a situation that is going on in the society, criticizing or evaluating an issue.

Then, it is important to identify the setting and characters from the comic. The Setting may be associated with the reality of society. Characters may depict human characteristics, negative or good attributes, from the society in which the comic is developed. Characters represent the author's idea about society, so analyzing a character or characters is a way to get to the author's purpose as well.

Through conflict and characters' actions much can be said and analyzed. This, characters' actions, can change throughout the plot.

Main events to identify the plot, the conflict and its outcome, are important to get to the theme and the purpose of the comic.

Once your are done identifying this information, think about a way to present all your ideas. Creating portfolios or scrapbook, for instance, can be a great way to espress your ideas and analysis of the comic in a more visual way to enhace meaning.
